About the AMBAQ

Background

The Quebec MBA Association was born in 1974 in the Eastern townships at Université de Sherbrooke. The need was to establish a network among the new emerging French speaking business community in Québec at the time. They were only a few hundreds with a MBA diploma.

Today, the association has 2000 members and its role has changed. Now, we want to connect all the MBA professionals working in Québec. They may have received their master degree form one of the seven Universities offering the program in the province, or from another university outside, but working in the Quebec business community. It is open to English speaking graduates as well as all MBA from Ethnic communities living in Quebec.

Our mission is to link all the MBA holders, to help their personal and professional development. The Association promotes, defends and values the title.

Structure

The association has a Board of Directors (CA) wich is responsible for all decisions mainly in the strategic development. The Bureau of Vice presidents (BD) organizes the daily life of the Association filled with over 50 activities each year. A permanent staff of 4 people assures the continuity of the Association and supports the volunteers. The head office is in downtown Montreal but we have chapters in Québec City and Sherbrooke City. The membership is on a volunteer basis and is renewable every year at the cost of 150 CDN$.

Activities

The Association holds monthly luncheon with Business leaders; networking activities in the form of 5 to 7 cocktails or visit of a company or a museum; a monthly Bulletin; an annual Gala where it honours the MBA of the year and a few other ‘prestige’ activities. The website with emphasis on the Data base of all members helps them keeping in touch. Information and continuing education are also important to the Association. We offer seminars on a regular basis. We are also connected with the ‘factories’ of MBA’s, the directors of the MBA programs offered in Québec.

Conclusion

2000 business professionals from different backgrounds, this is a huge network filled with expertise. Members have access to a web data base to find help, contacts and friends.
